Program Trendsetter Award (Practices)

Rock ClimbingNominations for this award are open to programs or services offered by individuals, groups, organizations, or facilities.

This award will be given annually to a Nova Scotia sport, physical activity, or recreation program/service which has successfully engaged girls and/or women in an area or activity in which they are traditionally underrepresented.

Selection Criteria include:

  • Being a sport, recreation, or physical activity program or service
  • Engaged girls and/or women in an area or activity in which they have been traditionally underrepresented
  • Developed and/or implemented a trendsetting initiative in sport, recreation, and/or physical activity for women and girls that inspired and motivated girls and/or women to either continue the activity or engage in new activities
  • Has the potential to sustain a message, behaviour, or activity over time

Wheelchair CurlingNominations for this award are open to programs or services offered by individuals, groups, organizations, or facilities

This award will be given annually to a Nova Scotia sport, physical activity, or recreation program or service which has successfully engaged girls and/or women from a specific subgroup of the population who are underrepresented in mainstream programs.

Selection Criteria include:

  • Being a sport, recreation, or physical activity program or service
  • Engaged women and/or girls from a diverse population group who are traditionally underrepresented in mainstream programs in an effort to create opportunities and break down barriers to their participation.
  • Developed and/or implemented a trendsetting initiative in sport, recreation, and/or physical activity for women and/or girls that inspired and motivated girls and/or women to either continue the activity or engage in new activities
  • Has the potential to sustain a message, behaviour, or activity over time

 

 

Media Trendsetter Award

Dragon Boat RacingNominations for this award are open to individual, groups, or organizations

This award will be given to a member of the media in Nova Scotia who has consistently produced content featuring active girls and/or women OR who has produced content designed to raise awareness regarding gender equity in sport, recreation, and/or physical activity.

Selection Criteria include:

  • Consistently produced content featuring active girls and/or women in sport, physical activity, and/or recreation, or content designed to raise awareness regarding gender equity in sport, recreation, and/or physical activity
  • Provided current descriptions or examples of this media coverage spanning a particular period of time within the past year
  • The media coverage promoted the engagement of girls and/or women in sport, physical activity, and/or recreation, or increased awareness, influenced change, and/or educated the public on issues related to gender equity and the engagement of girls and/or women in sport, recreation, and/or physical activity

 

 

Leadership Trendsetter Award

Hockey RefereesNominations for this award are open to individual women

The leadership award will be given to a woman in Nova Scotia who has significantly influenced the sport, recreation, and/or physical activity landscape for girls and/or women in the province.

It is an award that is normally earned over time—although a single exceptional action may also be recognized.

Individuals who may be considered for this award may include athletes, performers, board members, mentors, coaches, officials, or volunteers, etc.

Selection Criteria include:

  • Demonstrated actions modeling the values of WomenActive-NS which are respect, diversity, fairness, and courage
  • Generated respect among her peers, colleagues, and/or participants
  • Positively influenced environmental or policy changes so women see themselves and are seen by others as competent and capable in any aspect of sport, physical activity, and/or recreation

 

 

Trailblazer Award

Snowshoeing with a dogThis award will be given annually to honour a woman who has influenced the activity level of women and/or girls and/or influenced systemic changes to create optimal conditions for women and girls to be active.

This award recognizes how much they have given of themselves to help others over several years.

This award will be determined by the WomenActive-NS Board of Directors.

Selection Criteria include:

  • Demonstrated actions modelling the values of WomenActive-NS which are respect, diversity, fairness, and courage
  • Generated respect amongst her peers, colleagues, and/or participants
  • Unwavering commitment to engaging women and/or girls that has persisted over many years
  • Created optimal conditions for women and/or girls to engage in sport, recreation, and/or physical activity
